Monster Math with "Math Stars" homework on Monday
Math: Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Spelling/Vocab: New list on Friday
Read: 20 minutes per night or more
Record all the minutes your child reads. You can count all minutes spent reading aloud, silent reading,or shared reading when your child is listening. My goal is to create a love of literature and reading!
Monday: Math Stars (can take more than one day) Begins in October
*Junior Great Books: re-read the story and prepare 2 questions. Complete the comprehension section.
*Journeys: simple vocabulary or language comprehension
* Your child will alternate Journeys and Junior Great Books every-other week. Groups change every two weeks.
In August and September we will just be doing Journeys.
Tuesday: Math, Library books due Thursday
Exchange classroom take-home reading books at school
Friday: Reading minutes due. New reading slips come home.
Spelling/Vocabulary lists come home Friday.
Spelling test first thing Friday morning.
Procedure: I say the definition and students write the correct word, spelled correctly.
Your child may bring home extra Math or other work that he or she didn't have time to finish. If your child is absent I will save work in a laminated "Homework envelope" containing all the missed work. Please send it back to school within a day or two. If you are going on vacation, please notify the office and I can send predictable work home with your child.
Projects: These are done at home. I generally allow at least two weeks for big projects.
August: Summer in a Can and "All About Me" introducing the "Kindness" Theme for the year
September: My Backyard at Night/ plants
October: Nocturnal Animals
November: Older Friend
January: no project
March: no project
April:/May STEM Fair
Additional homework: additional homework may come home as need arises.
